How do meals work at the House? 

Supper is prepared and available as a hot meal from around 4:30pm until 7:30pm Monday through Thursday. After this, leftovers are put away and are available for reheating at the residents’ leisure. The house kitchen is stocked twice a week with groceries and other necessities for residents to prepare their personal meals throughout the week. Dietary restrictions and allergies should be communicated to the house director at the beginning of the school year. Although not every dietary preference can be accommodated for each meal, we do our best to avoid allergens and make a variety of meals throughout the semester.

How does laundry work at the house? 

The Newman House has two washers and two dryers available for use by residents at any time. The house also provides detergent, dryer sheets, and stain treatment that is free for all to use. Residents are free to purchase and use their own detergent if they wish. Normal courtesy rules apply. We simply ask that you be prompt in removing your clothes from the machines. Hang-drying racks are also available for residents to use.

How does housekeeping work at the house? 

Weekly chores are shared by the residents and rotate weekly. Periodic cleaning of broader communal areas is done by the house director. At the beginning of each year, chores will be discussed with all incoming residents and a system will be put in place to make sure that all housekeeping duties are taken care of throughout the year.

How does Maintenance Work at the HOuse?

The Newman House has a part-time maintenance man. All requests can be submitted directly through his message board or through the house director.

How do parking and bike storage work?

Residents are to purchase a parking pass for the university-provided lot across the street. The Newman House has limited parking behind the house which is reserved for staff. Residents can feel free to park their car behind the house for short periods of time to load or unload their vehicles. There is a bike rack in the back of the house where residents can lock up their bikes. For the winter months, there is a space to store bikes safely indoors. Bikes should not be taken up to a resident’s room.
