Can freshmEn Live at the House?

Yes! We have a specific arrangement with the UND Housing Office that establishes the option of living in the Newman House as one of the viable criteria for exemption from the First-Year Campus Housing requirement. Feel free to contact the House Director for more information.

What is the typical breakdown of ages of the residents?

While every year is different, we usually have students of all ages from freshmen to graduate-level students. This is great for helping younger students navigate their transition into college and for older students to meet new faces that they may not encounter in their upper-level classes.

How often do you host events or have organized social opportunities?

We host events for the Newman Center and broader community two times per month on average. This includes our regular Women's Night events which are open to all women, as well as House Masses and Community Events which are open to the greater community. The House Director and Resident Assistant seek to provide fun and meaningful activities for the girls to participate in without overfilling their weekly schedule.

Is there a common prayer life at the house?

There are many opportunities for common prayer at the house, but none are required. House Mass takes place once per month and is open to all who can attend. At times, groups of residents gather to pray night prayer, a Rosary, or other devotions together and invite anyone who is interested. In addition, the chapel is available to residents 24/7 with the Blessed Sacrament present.

Do I have to be Catholic to live at the House?

Not at all! Still, all residents are expected to live by certain Christian morals in the Newman House. For example, we don't allow male guests overnight, explicit content to be posted on the walls, etc. For a detailed list of these rules, please contact the House Director.

What does the house provide and what would I need to pack?

The house provides communal and bedroom furniture (twin bed, dresser, desk, chair), curtains for bedroom windows, dishes, silverware, cookware, basic groceries, paper products, cleaning supplies, coffee machines, and kitchen appliances. You would need to bring twin sheets, bedding, toiletries, towels, and any other personal belongings that you desire.
